Staff, including the Ladies upon check-in and at Urology, the nurse who drew blood and escorted me around; very professional but still comforting and personal. Dr. Rier, very professional but esay to talk with and to, explains well in language and examples that I can understand without geting a degree in urology. Tells it like it is, no sugar coating/no scare tactics; explains why tests are being done and when the results come in, puts together a plan of recourse/options if necessary that are to the point. Explains what could happen good or not good. Feel comfortable listening/talking to him. Normal guy (but a lot more knowlegable/intectual then I could ever think I could be). You feel he is there to try to help people lead a normal life and catch the hiccups before they become insurmountable (with bad consequences). We are all going to die some day, hopefully quietly and pain free. Just like an old soldier, they do not die; they just fade away slowly! - C.E

Due to the office indicating perhaps a week or two for pre-certification, I chose to check with Mayo and they were able to schedule the CT Scan within two days and will follow-up with treatment at Mayo. I arrived just prior to my appointment (12:50PM); reported in to your desk; updated any/all information needed for your records; was called in for a blood draw; gave your lab my urine sample; and shortly thereafter met with Dr. Rier, whom gave me my annual exam; heard his report - which I was pleased with; received word I didn't have to see him again for twelve months; and checked out. This appointment was a follow-up from a second bladder surgery. Dr. Rier explained the results very well so I could understand and then we talked about the treatment. I like his demeanor and his straight forward attitude. After the first surgery on Sept. 9 I was also having problems with a very sore penis. It was examined there in your offices on two different occasions when Dr. Rier was gone. The 2 doctors decided it was an irritation and to spray it with a saline solution and when that didn't work they prescribed an anti-fungal cream. After two weeks that didn't help so I went to a dr. here in Algona. Dr. Brinkley took a look at it and decided it was an ulcer and then called Rier's office and someone there suggested Vaseline. When I saw Dr. Rier a week or so later on the 10/18 it was still bad and he took a look at it for the first time and immediately said to get some antibiotic cream (triple or bacitracin) Within a few days it had healed up nicely. - J.M

On September 27, George met with Dr. Rier and was told that the tumor was completely removed in surgery. Will do a follow CT scan in 6 months. This visit, on January 27, 2016, was a followup to my TURP procedure which had occurred on January 5th. At the time of this visit, I was able to urinate without problems, and the scan showed that my bladder had emptied sufficiently.I was very grateful, and when Dr. Reier came into the room I thanked him. I told him that I had been very nervous during the days following the surgery, because I had removed the catheter the next day, and bleeding had continued for some time. The doctor did not scold me. He said that I had been pretty "blocked up", and said that this procedure was the right one for me. He told me to drink water (I believe he said at least 36 to 40 oz) each day; and he then asked me to go to the desk to schedule a follow-up cystoscopy. At the desk I was told to call around the end of February to schedule this for around the end of April. When I did call, the cystoscopy was scheduled for a day convenient to me. That will be April 20th at 3:00 p.m. I was very satisfied with how I was treated, and with the plan for the future. - Carlton Shaw

I'm not sure if I did , but all experiences were excellent. However When I was in recovery, somehow my left eye was scratched. I have never been informed as to how it happened. Also, Fri. June 15th, the nurse that came on at 7 p.m. Was very unpleasant. She got me up to walk, and said I'll be back to walk you two more times. Never happened! At 11:00p.m. I pressed my help button, when she came in I said is it too late for me to walk. She said " it's your call". I never heard of such a thing ! Maybe it was a bad day for her ? Made the initial appointment for an opinion on a varicocele and it was scheduled within a reasonable time frame. Due to the office indicating perhaps a week or two for pre-certification, I chose to check with Mayo and they were able to schedule the CT Scan within two days and will follow-up with treatment at Mayo.
