Dr. Eric is an extremely conscientious, dedicated surgeon and doctor. Dr. is caring, quite serious (which I try to interject a little levity much to his chagrin). He has a serious job, I do understand that. Dr. is a young looking guy, and I'm sure doesn't want to overlooked in his job of attention to detail to lead to success. This is my 2nd rotator cuff surgery, completing both shoulders. I had tremendous success with the first, and I expect, after proper healing for the 2nd to be equally as successful.I had both hips replaced at another hospital in Waterloo by another surgeon. It was over all very good. I found the staff at the hospital very helpful and kind. The time leading up to the surgery good. My family and friends were able to wait with me till I was on my way. The only one bad experience was the last day, I had been discharged to go home in the afternoon. A young lady with perfect white teeth, perfect hair, and a lovely smile came in to do my exercises. She spent all of about 5 minutes with me, but what was so bad is how she shoved my knee back in three very fast movements that really hurt, then she was out the door. ( this was during the heal slides) . But maybe that was what she was supposed to do. I had two other PT's , Linda, and I can't remember the other one, she was tall , blond hair( I first met her at Joint Camp) they never treated me like that. - B.K

I was scheduled to meet Dr. Potthoff by my primary doctor, Dr. Dunlay. I found Dr. Potthoff to be very pleasant, ready to answer questions and to demonstrate what he was talking about. I brought my daughter with me as my hearing does not always interpret words properly but I found Dr. Potthoff spoke distinctly and I could have gone alone to his appointment. This is important to us older people. He demonstrated what my X-rays showed and gave me options and recommendations so I could choose a course of action. He reviewed with me the restrictions I have to follow which I had acctually forgotten, the main one being STOP TWISTING!! That's a hard one to remember because some of the stretches I do and feel really good are twisting at the waist, guess I better be more careful!! it's good to be relatively pain free but sometimes I get really mad at the things I can't do anymore. Surgery to repair rotator cuff tear. The surgery went well, prep was good. After surgery care and info was not very complete, I looked things up on internet once I was able to focus from pain killers, like how to wear the sling, nurses after surgery were not sure!. A few days after surgery, I developed a yeast infection in my mouth, what a mess. When I mentioned it to Dr Potthoff's assistant, she said to contact my doctor!! Why could this office address this, why another doctor visit and expense?? After surgery, I came home with a large bruise on my right breast (same side as surgery) and as it healed, my brest seeped. Leading to another doctor visit and diagnostic mammogram. Was this necessary? Was this a result of trauma due to surgery? No information relating to these "side effects" of surgery. Being female, I was also looking for information on wearing a bra again and the style of bra that could be more comfortable. Options of having a blow dryer stand for doing my hair was a great find on the internet as well. I was a bit disappointed in the information on what to expect after surgery.... So to anyone that may read this before surgery, do lots of research before while your head is clear and you are not on drugs!!!! Lesson learned...Dr Potthoff and his office are friendly and my results are great so far, just beginning strengthening therapy. So happy to be on this side of that shoulder injury... Had a knee scope done, it is feeling good, the follow up appointment was not as I expected. He didn't even touch the knee, look at any incisions, just ask how I felt,ask me to bend it, straightend it,asked to see me walk, a whole four steps. Then said, well I am sending you back to work? I was floored, I work on concrete ten plus hours a day, constantly walking back and forth in about eighty foot area, carrying weight like four by eight sheets of plywood three quarters of an inch thick, twenty four to forty five feet long roof rails. I have had three therapy treatments and it is starting to feel alot better. The surgery center staff and facilities was fantastic - M.H

Overall GREAT experience. She was very nervous getting out of the car but even the front staff made her feel comfortable. The nursing staff was amazing! They explained absolutely every step and directed all information to her as well as us (parents). That made her more comfortable. I loved the fact that dr Potthoff came in beforehand to speak with us and her and asked if we had questions. And then spoke with just us afterwards to explain again what happened. The Dr then came and saw my daughter after she woke up and explained everything directly to her. This amazed me! How very thoughtful and dedicated a surgeon to spend the extra time to speak with all of us 3 seperate times. I absolutely loved using the surgery center and would highly recommend it to anyone. I didn't have to wait at all as the staff was ahead of schedule and they were all very efficient moving ahead to prepare me for surgery. Very pleased with the anesthesiologist and happy to have Donna F as my nurse anesthetist who I had worked with some years ago in Cresco(a very comfortable feeling, Donna). Am only 6 weeks out so don't know exactly my full recovery yet but guess as of now am on track. Was surprised to get a card from all the surgery staff wishing me a good recovery--another happy feeling. Dr Potthoff gives very good direct instructions and these were easy to follow for post-op care at home.
