Overall good with the exception of scheduling the procedure, I called and left a message twice and got a call Back the next day missed that call too and tried to call back for two hours every five minutes and nobody answered the phone so it sure as why the receptionist is not answering the phone that was very frustrating it’s too bad because everything else was good but that left a bad taste in my mouth - I.C

It was an overall a great experience with great service. I was happy to receive a follow up call the day after the procedure to see I how was doing. The only thing I wished they provided me with is a dietary list of things I'm allowed to eat and things to avoid. But otherwise everyone was really pleasant and answered all of my questions. I also wished someone had given me my treatment cost the day before the actual procedure. - J.A

Everything went well. Soon after I arrived was checked in, taken back to prep area and taken into the surgical suite. Dr. Lee was waiting for me. Final preparation took place, anesthetic given and procedure performed. It only took about five minutes. The next thing I knew I was getting ready to be released. My ride arrived and home I went. Everything to do with the procedure went as smoothly and pleasantly as possible.I also must say that all precautions were taken to ensure a clean and sterile environment and I felt secure that the establishment was very well run. The administrative and support staff were lovely. They explained every step of the process so I felt comfortable. i felt confident that I was in good hands. Everyone in the pre-op area was extremely attentive and helpful. Specifically mention Hayley, Giselle and Emma, and Jose. Again each one very knowledgeable and comforting. Dr. Lee was comforting and easy going. My only concerns are how to connect with the Dr. for follow-up questions. The office was less than forthright about the next stage. I'm hoping it's just the holiday weekend that is causing the breakdown in communication.Procedures save lives. It's important to undergo them. Dr. Lee's practice is a place where it can be done in the best manner possible. - E.D

Dr. Lee and all support staff were great. The people who prepped me and took care of me all did an efficient job, and all showed that they cared. The only weak point was that the anesthesiologist was late, causing me to wait, and the procedure to begin at 12:40 instead of the scheduled 12:00. But everything that Dr. Lee and the rest of the staff provided went very well. The prep areas were a little loud and like a mass production line, but I guess that can be expected in corporate medicine in 2020. Overall, though, happy with the experience. - M.G

Wait time was longer than expected as there may have been some confusion on my scheduled 12:30 PM appointment as they thought it was at 1:30 pm while I was brought into holding area. Procedure seemed very quick but don't remember much following procedure. All excellent. - J.Z

I had a 12:30 PM appointment and was asked to come 1 hour before and I arrived at 11:30 AM and checked in promptly. For some reason there was miscommunication as they thought when I was in holding my procedure was at 1:30 PM. There was not a significant delay but I waited about 30'. Dr. Paul Lee is a seasoned expert in his field. I was scheduled for a Colonoscopy procedure - never the most pleasant of events, but we all have to go thru it. The procedure began within 3 min of it's scheduled time, and was completed in 20 min. I was having lunch with my wife an hour and a half after being wheeled into the procedure room, feeling no ill effects. In my opinion, Hoag medical is one of the best providers in the country, and Dr. Paul Lee is one of the most competent Doctors in the business. Additionally, as we're all aware, a Team Leader (Dr. Lee) is only as good as the staff he surrounds himself with. And Dr. Lees staff - attending Nurse, Anesthesiologist, prep team, are all top notch - competent, friendly, empathetic, patient and comforting.I gave Scheduling Ease a 3 out of 5 stars. In the 5 times I called, 3 of the 5 calls lead to an answering machine during normal business hours. To be clear, nothing was lost, I wasn't dropped, I received my appointments as required. I simply had to be persistent in my calling. An online reservation system may be a better solution.However, the scheduling thing is a minor issue - my primary concern was my level of care, and the comfort and confidence I felt with regards to the medical staff and Dr. Paul Lee. In that respect - Dr. Lee and his team receive 5 of 5 stars. They are the best. I am referring them to my friends and family members. - J.M

Dr. Lee and most of his staff were excellent. There was one nurse who asked me, "Why are you losing your hair? And why don't you have any eyebrows" when she first met me. She didn't tell me her name, she just started off the conversation with 2 insults. When you don't feel good because you haven't had anything to eat and spend the night with diarrhea, the last thing you want to hear is an insult about your appearance. I was embarrassed and and I felt like crying. I would expect more empathy for someone about to have a colonoscopy. Everyone else was awesome. - J.B

From the moment I walked in on Tuesday morning, it all went well. I got there early. I went to the front to ask a question and the young lady said she was just going to call me up. I filled out the papers and five minutes later I was called to the back. Teri was my initial nurse. She was great. They were all very nice and professional. My procedure nurse , Adrianna, made me feel comfortable. The others involved were great, I just can't remember names! Dr. Lee listened and answered questions before starting and that is all I remember! I did see Dr. Lee at recovery. I do appreciate seeing him before being sent home. We were in and out in two hours. I had an excellent anesthesiologist that made sure I was under just the right amount of medication for my procedure. After Dr Lee explained my results and answered all questions. This was my first colonoscopy experience and I was very apprehensive about the procedure. However, Dr. Lee and his staff were very helpful, friendly, and professional all through the whole process! I called back to the office a couple of days before the procedure for some questions and the staff was very patience. Dr. Paul Lee is a great listener and a generous man. I have Crohns and colitis, and when casually treated by a previous gastroenterologist, my colon bled immediately after a colonoscopy to the point of emergency surgery and a blood transfusion. I moved to California a few years later. Dr Lee read my files and wrote a script to keep me on Remicade. Many doctors would require a colonoscopy of their own before doing this. But upon hearing of my past experience, Dr. Lee merely said, without pressure, that we should perform one when I was ready. Two years later, Dr Lee called me to follow up on how I was doing. I met him and told him I was ready. His office immediately scheduled a procedure for me at my convenience, and Dr Lee himself made accommodations to make sure that this happened. His office staff was available to help me when I called them two days before the procedure with questions about the prep. They called me the day before to make sure I had no more questions about the prep or the procedure. Dr Lee acknowledged the need to be extra gentle with my sensitive colon just before I went under. The procedure was a success, removing two polyps (I had never had any before). This was yesterday. Last night and this morning, I have not seen a trace of blood, which is actually to be expected, at least a little. No pain at all. Regular bowel movements this morning. I actually feel more refreshed and more alert today than I have in years. This guy is the best, need I say more. - J.B

I was very impressed with the Hoag Outpatient Surgery Center except for 2 issues. I was told to be one and a half hour early due to difficulties at times getting an iv but wasn’t called for almost 45 minutes. The most impersonal people were the receptionists while friendly, were not very attentive-even telling a secret about their upcoming weekend while I was there. The rest was outstanding as far as staff and flow. Nurses were patient and computer work while tedious made me feel the facility and Dr were thorough. One of my best outpatient experiences (and I’ve had many). Later getting hold of facility, nurse and even Dr were all very timely, informative& helpful. They made the experience even better especially on a Friday nite. A - J.S

Dr.Lee over all the procedure process was informative and necessary. I found the person who was present just before I was put under and asking me to be part of a study timing to be very poorly done. There was time before I entered into the operation room, I was there for over one hour awaiting to be moved into the next room, she could have come there and ask to be part of the study, it was very distractive and very poorly timed, when I was about to be put under. If I had to do over I would not have participated, I felt pressured. I would suggest to put descriptive notes under the pictures that were taken so I can better understand what you see, and explain to me what the results and the way forward. That's it. Sal - S.F

I didn't have to wait and the staff was very professional. The results were properly explained to me and my only comment for improvement is that the prep package did not work that well for me. I followed all of the instructions for the prep and not sure why I was up all night waiting for it to take effect. Two days before the prep I ate very light meals and had nothing past 6 pm. Then the day of the prep I basically only had coffee, lots of water and clear juice. Started the prep at 4 pm and ended at 9 pm per the instructions - - then waited and waited - - finally at 3 am I started to evacuate my bowels. Finished with the evacuation of my bowels at 6 am. - R.C

Nausea and headaches always happen to me and pain but I was also off all medications for 5 days so I'm sure that didnt help. Yoko was very nurturing when I wasn't feeling so well and nauseated. That cool towel worked wonders so did her nice voice. Julie was a sweetheart. Making me feel better and very at home. Javier was gentle taking me over bumps which helped. Overall experience was excellent. Check in, prep for procedure, medical procedure and recovery completed by friendly, professional staff. Doctor Paul Lee took the time to fully explain results and answer my questions. The anesthesiologist clearly described his role and assured me he would stay with me during the procedure. Dr Lee comes across as calm, confident and amicable. There is some room for improvement when patients call regarding general questions and appointments. When the patients call is answered by a 'live' staff member everything is great, questions answered, appointments scheduled, very efficient. When the patients call is referred to an automated phone system it is less than satisfying. This is not a personnel or training issue, it is a lack of adequate staffing during high volume call periods. Thank you for the opportunity to provide patient feedback. - C.C

I was very impressed with Dr. Lee and his staff, which appears to be properly trained and well managed. They are good listeners, very organized and polite. His office is busy but they assure that the patient does not feel rushed through the various steps. The various tasks to accomplish from the initial consultation until the final procedure are well established. I was provided with well written information on my procedure and preparations. Concise but with just enough detail, which is the way it should be. Dr. Lee has excellent bedside manner, and appears to care about his patients. These days, a lot of doctors really don't. It would be nice to have a sheet of paper with information on the cafeteria near the Irvine facility where the procedures are performed. It is useful for the people accompanying the patients. - L.S

Overall Dr. Lee and staff were great. The procedure experience was much easier and more pleasant than I had anticipated.There were several things I wanted to mention that could be improved upon:1. Wait time. Half hour spent sitting in the waiting room is too long. No need for patient to be there one hour prior to surgery.2. The waiting room is dingy and unappealing. If I hadn't prepped the night before, I might have left the facility without Having my procedure done. Fortunately the surgical area was clean and bright.3. The lock on the bathroom door near the front desk doesn't function properly. I walked in on a man getting changed. He was bare naked. Unfortunate occurrence for both of us. I later tested the lock and you have to be very careful to make sure it locks.4. Stop asking for social security numbers on your paperwork. I refused to give mine. It is quite possibly illegal that you are still asking for it and you risk identity theft for your patients. - K.N

This was my first colonoscopy and I was a tad bit anxious. Hardest part was drinking the prep and all the required liquids - however will say it was not as bad as I thought it would be. For those who like drinking grape flavored salt water I am sure it is a breeze. I would give everyone 10 stars! From scheduling through follow-up I had excellent care. The entire staff should be commended on their excellent patient care and customer service. From the time I entered the facility at each phase I was greeted with a smile and introduction and this was from, check-in/registration, pre-procedure, procedure, post-procedure, discharge and follow-up care. I also noted (and appreciated) how efficient and observant everyone was ( I was given three warmed blankets - thank you!) and how they put me at ease. Everyone explained everything prior to each step along the way and kudos to what a great job of putting in my IV. Typically I have had to experience a few tries, and this was done once, and I didn't feel more than a pinch. Also noted that positive patient ID was done as well as time out. Honestly the last thing I remember was having the time out and as far as the procedure goes - do not recall it at all. Next thing I knew I was being given some juice to drink. Helen who did my follow-up call was great too. Thank you to you and your team for making something I was dreading a pleasant experience (did I actually say that about a colonoscopy - lol). - M.R

I turned 65 in May and as you guessed it I am on Medicare now. I choose an HMO plan. I heard a lot of bad things about HMO's ( DURING MY WORKING YEARS I HAVE ALWAYS CHOSEN A PPO PLAN ). I had an initial good impression of the Memorial Care facility (1640 Newport Blvd) when I walked in and the front desk staff was nice and helpful. The waiting room had a nice wow factor. I used the men's bathroom in the lobby and the sink was minor issue. I went in to pre-op area and the staff was great, friendly, attentive, caring. IV was painless even thought I'm not good with needles. It was super early in morning so maybe I wasn't paying attention during all the forms and sign-offs but the one thing that I was a bit disappointed about was that I wished they told me more about the research study consent and maybe it was just too early and I don't recall but I signed things quickly as they quickly went through documents. I did ask about the research study to another assistant while I was waiting for the procedure (after signings) and he briefly described it and he said to talk to the doctor but I expressed to him that I didn't want to do it (although in the quick form signing process, I had already signed it). When I got taken to the room for the endoscopy & colonoscopy, it was the anesthesiologist who took me in quickly and I didn't get to see doctor til the operating room and it was quickly lights out and I didn't get to talk to him about it. I can imagine the goal is to get as many opt-ins for the research study as possible but I would hope that it's more clearly described since again, I would not have consented. And I don't know if the bristling would cause any additional issues in my throat which already has issues so a bit concerned on actual impact to my health beyond the process issues. Side note: I had an endoscopy a few years ago and didn't have this discomfort afterwards so I am now stuck wondering if its due to the bristling.... maybe biopsies (how many taken?). As for the post-op, I was a bit out of it and I'm sure the doctor is super busy and has procedures back to back but I would have appreciated him walking me through the report and the images. And again, maybe I was out of it but all I recall was no major issues and to take the medication but as a patient, it would be good to know next steps like: 1) follow up appt; 2) when will results of the biopsies be ready. So I like my doctor and my general experience but I hope this constructive feedback is helpful for continuous improvement. - Greg Kim

I called and left a message and the nurse who called me back was extremely helpful and confirmed where I was supposed to go. The procedure went fine and a polp was removed. I checked in at 7:30 when required for procedure scheduled at 8:30. Wait time was about 45 minutes to be taken back and then another what seemed like a long wait before procedure. The purpose of the visit was to discuss (1) Ineffectiveness of Pantoprazole and concern that this would worsen my Barrett's Esophagus and (2) bowel issues.Dr. Lee provided a prescription for Omeprazole to replace the Pantoprazole...and provided suggestions as to how to deal with the bowel issues.Also, Dr. Lee prescribed an Endoscopy to examine the status of the Barrett's Esophagus which he discovered during an Endoscopy performed a year ago. We were able to schedule their test before we left the office.Overall, the visit fulfilled all my requirements. Dr. Lee is patient, answers questions clearly and completely and I believe takes appropriate action. I wish all my doctors were like Dr. Lee. - P.S

The receptionist's (not remembering the name, but she is the long brunette hair, thin young lady on the left of the counter) attitude towards customer service would need a major adjustment in my opinion. She spoke in a rapid fire manner, and at time hurling indiscernible instructions/commands to us, and failed to listen to our inquiries. Since she did not listen, her answers were way of the mark, for instance, we asked her what was the contact phone so my ride, Dr. Bui could call for pick up time. The young lady reply was the info was on the form that I needed to fill out which had only Dr. Bui phone's number...But once I passed that ordeal, things started to get back to very professional and efficient. I felt very comfortable from the prep time to a chance to talk to Dr. Lee and Le prior to being moved to the Operations room. Operations room was clean and well equipped. I particularly appreciate Dr Le for explaining the level of sedation during the prep. Overall, I would rate the experience with the doctors 10 out of 10, with the nurses 8 out of 10, and with the receptionist 3 out of 10. Thank you all for taking care of me today! - M.Tu

I sought treatment for Hepatitis C from Dr. Lee and although the insurance companies stonewalled the process trying to force the issue of less effective treatments, Dr. Lee stood adamantly for the proper treatment and medications for my situation. As a result, he was able to provide me with the treatment that cured my Hepatitis C without lost time at work and without the painful debilitating side effects from out dated treatments by obtaining access to the most current and effective treatments available. The cure may not have been available to me had he not held to his conviction of proper treatment for the patient and access for everyone to what medicine has to offer. I am forever grateful to Dr. Lee for the extra years he has added to my life and no amount of stars can ever convey that amount of gratitude. In closing the colonoscopy he preformed on me as well was as much a walk in the park has those can be, true professional by all measures of the phrase. - K.F

My experience at the facility doing the procedure was as expected. They brought me back quickly and told me everything that was going to happen. My nurse was helpful, friendly and listened to my concerns and questions. My only issue was I felt I was rushed out of there. I barely remember Dr. Lee coming in to see me or what exactly he said. All my information came from the handout they gave me when I left. I assume they may be calling me later when the biopsy report comes back on the polyp they found. I was very nauseous and didn't feel well the rest of the day, maybe a bit dehydrated? Maybe needed some zofran to send me on my way...For the prep, the instructions stated starting the prep at 4pm. I think this was way too late (at least in my case) as I was up all night using the bathroom and didn't get any sleep. I was still cleaning out when I went to the facility in the morning and I don't think I was totally clear. Is there a reason why the prep shouldn't be started earlier since your already on a clear liquid diet? Would also add to the instructions about not chewing gum, my mouth was so dry, I was chewing gum when I arrived and the women at the front desk chastised me for chewing gum, said it created acid in the stomach. Well, we weren't going into the stomach, the instructions didn't say not to and I felt a little attacked like I should have known better. Other than that I don't remember the procedure past the medication which was perfect as I did not care to be awake. The procedure nurse was nice as well even though I only saw her for literally 5 minutes. I got a phone call the next day asking if all was ok, by the next day I was fine, I think holding on to the patient an extra 15 min. would have been better for recovery. Thankyou - K.G

I was very nervous because I'd never had an upper GI and only one colonoscopy. The nursing staff was efficient and had great bedside manner and put me at ease quickly. I was wheeled in to the procedure room, knocked out, and don't remember a thing after that, which is the way it should be. My only complaint was that it took longer to get in than was planned... my procedure was supposed to be at 8:30 and it was closer to 9:30 before I got in, but that's a minor annoyance. He said that was not recommended. He was aware that the drug was for Hep-C and reminded me that it was very expensive, about $80,000, which was not at all helpful. Dr. Lee has treated me since April 11, 2016. He performed colonoscopy and treatment thereafter. He has given good medical advice and assisted me with Crohn's treatment. He is compassionate, caring and a good listener. He suggested Humira which I believe has helped, although I still have colon that is swollen. He has referred me to specialist at UCI and Cedars in LA. I'm trying to get appointment with Dr. at UCI since Cedars cancelled the doctor appointment due to the fact that now doctor will be out of the office.Dr. Lee has been a great support and doctor during this time.
